This was a great sequel to last year’s debut of this outrageous event!  We were randomly paired with architecture giant NBBJ, and tasked with creating a runway-worthy couture outfit constructed out of the materials that United Tile distributes.  Our outfit ended up having a sassy, chic, industrial-meets-Art Nouveau flavor.  We created:

– A tailored pleated underdress made completely of Laticrete 9235 anti-fracture membrane.

-A laser-cut mesh and floral skirt using Composeal shower-pan liner.

-An incredible modified ‘knit’ shawl of Composeal using a genius innovation designed by Samuel Sze at NBBJ.

-A ‘feathered’ mosaic headdress, belt and shoes made from Bisazza, Chimera and Water Crystal glass tile and Laticrete 4237 and 1500 series grout.

The process is one of spirited collaboration.  We spent many a night running amok in NBBJs model shop until 2 am, experimenting with laser cutters and tile nippers.  It’s an event that really forges a bond within the team as we all get carried away by the atmosphere of creativity and competition.  Indeed, the entire industry gets caught up in the fervor as we take common industrial materials and make them glamorous.  Despite the hard work, the 2 minutes of glory on the runway make it all worthwhile.

United Tile Showroom Manager Praises NuHeat Support

Simon Smoldon as a ref at a rugby match
Simon Smoldon as a ref at a rugby match

The following was written by Kate Jessup, Showroom Manager in our Renton office.

“We always appreciate it when our customers take time out of their day to let us know when they have received exemplary service from us.  In that spirit, I would like to commend one of our sales reps who has gone above and beyond for our company.

I have always found Simon Smolden to be a very accessible and friendly rep and an invaluable technical resource for NuHeat products.  This is particularly important to us in the showroom because clients look to us for accurate information on these highly technical materials.  We have limited hands-on experience in the field with these products, but we need to be as informed as an installer in order to answer inquiries.  Simon’s NuHeat knowledge allows us to feel confident that we can get the correct information and support.  But on a recent Saturday I was especially grateful for Simon’s commitment.  I had a customer who was having difficulty with the tile purchasing process.  He was picking up an order of NuHeat  that morning and had a lot of technical questions.  Even though it was a Saturday morning, I called Simon.  He took my call while in the middle of refereeing a rugby game!  In addition, he called back when the match ended, just to follow up.  My customer left with the information he needed, a transformed experience with our industry,  and a sense of having been thoroughly taken care of.  To me this demonstrated a level of commitment that is rarely seen and always appreciated, and I wanted to share it with you.”
